PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In the rainy season, flooding is still one of the tough tasks of the Bandung City Regional Government which needs to be resolved together with all levels of society.
In the near future, the Bandung City Government will accelerate an audit of flood-prone environments at a number of points.
"The Bandung City Government has made many efforts. There are retention ponds, waterholes, pump houses, absorption wells and others. However, flooding still occurs frequently in several areas," said Bandung City Regional Secretary, Ema Sumarna (19/2/2024).
Ema explained that the factors causing flooding in the city of Bandung include narrow or shallow drainage, littering, river sedimentation, and controls that have not been enforced on a massive scale.
"Narrow and shallow drainage occurs in Ujungberung. To solve this, there must be activities outside the program and carried out regularly. We must open all the drainage in the city of Bandung. CSR can work together to solve this problem," he said.
According to Ema, strengthening control over development permits must also be improved. Because many buildings often increase flooding problems when they are established because they do not have an EIA solution.
Then, continued Ema, behavior in maintaining cleanliness must also be improved. He proposed that once every three months the Clean Bandung program be carried out routinely.
"In a year, that means we clean the sidewalks and paint the road medians four times. This will definitely have a more pronounced effect. Don't just do it once a year on Bandung City's anniversary," he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Service (DSDABM), Didi Ruswandi, explained that the City of Bandung has 12 river sub-regions. Where there are 14 rivers, there is relatively no flooding.
"The largest puddle is in Cinambo with a volume of 24,000 cubic meters. If this is solved with a retention pond, we need a pond with a depth of 4 meters, where each depth can accommodate 6,177 cubic meters," explained Didi.
He also said that areas where flooding often occurs are the Gedebage Main Market and the intersection of Jalan Soekarno Hatta.
There are also relatively large portions in Cicadas, Rancabolang, Margahayu, Kawaluyaan and Kiaracondong flyovers where the flood volume reached around 3,256 cubic meters.
"If it is completed with a retention pond of 816 cubic meters, a pond with a depth of 4 meters is needed," he explained.
Apart from that, Didi said, to overcome flooding problems, the plan is for each RT to have 10 shallow recharge wells.
"This year we are targeting 24 deep recharge wells. Usually every year we build 10 deep recharge wells," he said.
